When Grandparents Get Canceled (And What to Do About It)

May 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

The sense of loss when grandparents are cut off from children and grandchildren can be devastating. Join JGN and licensed marriage and family therapist associate Rachel Haack for gentle and loving ways to address the pain and take small steps toward reconciliation.

Together, we will explore:

  • The reasons that families become estranged, including warning signs
  • Why there is social support for cutting off a parent and the concept of “virtuous victimhood”
  • Helpful ways grandparents can mentally frame their situation (Hint: “Fair” doesn’t factor in)
  • Why it is helpful to see ourselves as 100% responsible for the relationship
  • First steps toward reconciliation
  • Long-term estrangement and how to cope

Rachel will also recommend helpful books and articles.

We invite you to send your questions in advance to Terry Kaye, terry@jewishgrandparentsnetwork.org We will keep them anonymous. Rachel will address as many questions as she is able to in our time together.

Please fill out the information below and you will receive the Zoom Join link in the Confirmation page and email after you register.
