Apr 08 2025 Recreating Shabbat
Ages:
AdultAppointments, schedules, and assignments fill our week. Almost every moment, someone is texting, calling, or emailing. We have limited time to engage in conversation. Our children eat on the run, often watching screens.
Yet many recent scientific studies have shown that spending time with family especially at meals leads to healthier nutrition, less anxiety, and greater self-esteem. Friday evening is the perfect time for grandparents to renew the wise Jewish Shabbat tradition of sharing a meal with their children and grandchildren.
The editors of the upcoming Oneg Shabbat: A Sabbath Evening Table Companion, Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and Rabbi Jeffrey Schein, share ideas for a meaningful Shabbat dinner table experience. They invite you to put away technological distractions for a while, take a deep breath, and create sacred moments with your grandchildren.
