Grandparents’ Day Celebratory Countdown

Grandparents’ Day takes place on the Sunday after Labor Day — this year on September 8. We are celebrating the gift of grandparenthood with two weeks of entertaining activities, resources, and giveaways. From coloring pages to a blessing for grandparents, from e-greeting cards to a virtual coffee chat with our Chief Zayde Officer, David Raphael, we went all out. It’s a day to embrace all the joy and pride of having the world’s greatest job as grandparents; it’s a time to celebrate YOU.

Blessing for Grandparents

We share our Grandparents’ Day blessing — a way to celebrate the grandparents in our communities, and in our lives, and to affirm their place in the generations. Feel free to print, share, and enjoy!

Synagogue and Jewish community leaders: we invite you to offer the blessing out loud to all the grandparents gathered.

e-Greeting Cards

Check out our Grandparents’ Day e-greeting cards, so you can spread some joy and cheer to grandparents you know!

Pre-Shabbat Party!

Get into the Shabbat spirit! Here are some classic Shabbat songs for your young grandchildren — make a pre-Shabbat Party. You can play this sing-along in person or over Zoom if you live at a distance.

Forever Letters

Do you write letters to your grandchildren? We have great ways to share stories, wisdom, love and gratitude, hopes, blessings, and reflections on your grandchildren as they grow from infancy, to toddlerhood, to adolescence and beyond.

Baking Through Stories

Have you shared stories about your own childhood with your grandkids? Or the stories behind important family recipes? Here are some tips for making the most of cooking together.

Fun with Reading

Love reading with grandkids?  Check out our Reading Room, one of the many delightful rooms in our Family Room activity center. What are some of your favorite children’s books to read aloud?

Fun with Puppets

Love puppets? Want to make your own? Break out the old or missing socks, bust out the brown paper bags, and get creative! Design yourself, Jewish characters or holiday-themed puppets, or create new characters. Share your puppets here on this thread or in our JGN group!

Still-Life Project

We all know the power of a single object to hold a trove of memories. A pressed flower from a wedding bouquet, a baseball card, a mahjong tile, a pay stub, a piece of jewelry, a postcard. Ordinary objects can contain extraordinary stories. This activity is designed for you and your grandchild to construct a still life individually, photograph it, and then share the finished products with each other across a family table or a Zoom screen.

Coloring Pages

It is our pleasure to present two new coloring pages for you to share with your grandchildren. Color together or separately!
